Privacy policy

Respecting Privacy

Association de la construction du Québec ("ACQ") is committed to taking all measures necessary to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of any personal information it collects, uses, communicates, retains, or destroys.

This policy describes ACQ practices for dealing with online information in order to better protect personal information.

Your Consent

By consulting the moduleC website (the "Site"), the user agrees to allow ACQ to collect and use the information as specified in this policy.

Use of Personal Information

ACQ may require the following personal information: name, address, telephone number, fax number, and email address.

Information collected by ACQ is treated with care and stored securely. This information will not be used in any manner whatsoever without the user's consent, except as specified in this policy.

Retention of Personal Information

ACQ conserves personal information in accordance with the applicable laws regarding the protection of personal information. No credit card information is kept on ACQ servers after your order is processed.

Viewing and Updating Personal Information

You can view the personal information in your file by clicking "Profile" on the www.modulec.ca homepage. To access your profile, use your email address and password. A "Manage your profile" link is found on the main menu and takes you to the various sections of your profile.

Access to Personal or Otherwise Confidential Information

ACQ may divulge personal information on users without their permission when necessary to supply a product or service, for requests filled by a third party, or when ACQ believes in good faith that it is required by the law.

Emails and Electronic Forms

ACQ does not send any personal or otherwise confidential information by nonsecure email. Should ACQ request personal information, the user will receive advance notice of the following:

  • The name and address of the third party on whose behalf the information is collected
  • What the information will be used for
  • The classes of individuals who will have access to this information
  • Whether the request is mandatory or optional
  • What will happen if you refuse to respond to the request
  • Your rights of access and correction under the law
  • The measures in place to ensure the confidentiality of information in transit

If users voluntarily send personal or other confidential information by nonsecure email or electronic form, ACQ will use only the information required to answer the message or respond to the request.

Electronic messages are subject to the same confidentiality measures used for letter mail.

Security Measures

ACQ has instituted security measures to protect you from loss or unauthorized use of the personal information held by ACQ, including credit card information.

ACQ servers use the latest information transfer technology (Secure Socket Layers, or SSL) to ensure highly secure transmission. All your personal information is encrypted by SSL software when entered, making it unreadable during Internet transfer. Security service is provided by VeriSign.

You can also verify that you are in secure mode when making online purchases by checking that the URL (Web address) begins with https:// and that the lock icon appears at the bottom of your browser window.

Information Sent Automatically

When a user accesses the Site, information is automatically exchanged between the user's computer and the server hosting the Site. The following information is exchanged:

  • The Internet supplier's domain name (e.g., "company.com" for private accounts or "university.edu" if access is through a university) and the IP address (generally a unique number assign to a computer when it is connected to the Internet, allowing documents to be sent to it without error).
  • The type of browser and operating system used
  • The date and time the Site was accessed
  • Pages viewed during the session
  • The address of the host site (referencing site) if the user accesses the Site through a secondary website

This exchange of information is only necessary because of the technological requirements inherent to Internet navigation. ACQ retains information necessary to collect data on the number of visitors, most frequently viewed pages, technology used by Site users, referencing sites, and users' countries of origin. This information is not used to collate, communicate, or exchange user lists or profiles.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files sent by a website to a user's browser and saved on the hard drive of the user's computer. Cookies facilitate Internet use by saving and managing status, application, preferences, and other user information. Most browsers are configured to enable cookies as a default, but users can change the configurations to block cookies or post an alert when they are sent. Instructions on managing cookies are found in the browser's "help" menu. Although blocking cookies will not affect your ability to dialogue with the Site, certain functionalities on the Website are only available when cookies are enabled.

Cookies are used (sometimes jointly with other technologies such as JavaScripts) to record traces of users' statuses and preferences, for security purposes, to understand Site users' behavior without identifying users, and to evaluate the effectiveness of certain promotional efforts.

Other than cookies used for the needs of customers registered on the Site or for information transfer between Site applications, information collected by cookies and JavaScripts is not used by ACQ to identify an individual. Cookies are set each time a user connects to the Site and are not permanent.

Other Sites

The Site contains links to other websites. When users follow these links, they leave the Site. Information exchanged with other websites is not subject to ACQ's privacy policy, but to the policy of the sites in question. Some sites may set permanent or temporary cookies on visitors' hard drives. For more information on these sites, consult the privacy policy of the website in question.

Changes to this Policy

Check back regularly for updates or changes to this privacy policy.

This policy may be changed to adapt it to changes at ACQ and to technological and legal developments. Whenever ACQ updates this policy, it indicates the date changes were made.
